Starehe’s infrastructure is in a dilapidated state.
The roads in Starehe are in a pathetic condition
despite the fact that it encompasses the city
centre. Feeder roads have been neglected; foot paths
can’t be used even by the dwellers in the estates.
During the rainy seasons, most of our estate roads
are more of gardens than roads. One can literally
plant crops and they grow on these roads! God have
mercy on us all.
The drainage available to our people is in most
places non-existent or at best substandard. The poor
infrastructure in Starehe has led to various
security concerns and an increase in crime.
The infrastructure will by all means definitely need
to be improved while new ideas need to be brought on
board to create an effective service provision
system.
Solutions
Encourage the government and local authorities on
developing modern road networks while improving
on the existing ones.
Put together private organizations and sponsors
willing to support the infrastructure development in
Starehe.
Encourage private investment in Starehe which in
turn translates to better infrastructure.
Encourage the government to create a conducive
atmosphere for the private investment by offering
incentives to willing local and international
investors.
Diligently push for the provision of basic
electricity, water, drainage and proper sanitation
for all constituents in their homes and in public
places.
Engage in an overhaul of the street lighting
available in the constituency.
Improve security in slum areas and encourage the
respective authorities to set up police posts thus
bringing security closer to the people.
Private sector players will also be encouraged to
participate in the drive to a more secure Starehe by
investing in security related projects.
