Starehe is a constituency which is in the heart of Nairobi Province. The economy of the country finds its roots here. This elicits the fact that Starehe is a bee hive of activities. Starehe constituency can be defined as very cosmopolitan in nature. This is because it encompasses Nairobi’s Central Business District (C.B.D) and its surroundings which together form the heart of Nairobi Province. A majority of businesses and government offices are found within Starehe. It is also the home to various large scale and small scale businesses. Most government offices are found within Starehe and therefore holds a large population from various cultural, religious and economical backgrounds.

Despite been host to the Central Business District and numerous businesses, most Starehe constituents live in poverty. A majority of the areas are plagued by lack of proper housing and basic social services amongst other problems that can be resolved through good planning and management.
